The fully discrete multistep characteristic finite volume element methods for the two-dimensional generalized nerve conduction equation
In the paper, a fully discrete Multistep characteristic finite volume element method is introduced and analyzed for approximating the solution of a nonlinear-hyperbolic equation in 2-space variables. Piecewise quadratic trial functions and piecewise constant test functions are used to finally obtain error estimate O(∆t + h). A numerical experiment is given which showed the method is practicable.
متن کاملSimulating Two-Phase Viscoelastic Flows Using Moving Finite Element Methods
Phase-field models provide a way to model fluid interfaces as having finite thickness; the interface between two immiscible fluids is treated as a thin mixing layer across which physical properties vary steeply but continuously. One of the main challenges of this approach is in resolving the sharp gradients at the interface. In this paper, moving finite-element methods are used to simulate inte...
متن کاملFinite Element Methods for Convection Diffusion Equation
This paper deals with the finite element solution of the convection diffusion equation in one and two dimensions. Two main techniques are adopted and compared. The first one includes Petrov-Galerkin based on Lagrangian tensor product elements in conjunction with streamlined upwinding. The second approach represents Bubnov/Petrov-Galerkin schemes based on a new group of exponential elements. It ...
متن کاملFully discrete finite element approaches for time-dependent Maxwell's equations
Many problems in sciences and industry involve the solutions of Maxwell’s equations, for example, problems arising in plasma physics, microwave devices, diffraction of electromagnetic waves. In this paper, we are interested in the numerical solution of time-dependent Maxwell’s equations in a bounded polyhedral domain in three dimensions. In the literature, one can find a great deal of work on n...
متن کاملHybrid Finite Element and Finite Volume Methods for Two Immiscible Fluid Flows
We have successfully extended our implicit hybrid finite element/volume solver to flows involving two immiscible fluids. The solver is based on the segregated pressure correction or projection method on staggered unstructured hybrid meshes. An intermediate velocity field is first obtained by solving the momentum equations with the matrix-free implicit cell-centered finite volume method. The pre...
